Commodore’s Message

September 7, 2007

Commodore Paul Clauss

On behalf of the members, board of governors and flag officers, welcome to the Shrewsbury Sailing & Yacht Club web site.

Since its inception, the members of Shrewsbury have fostered and maintained a wonderful legacy, keeping with the true spirit of those founding members when they originally charted our organization's course back in 1936.

We remain to this day a group of congenial people who are interested in boats, sailing, cruising and racing as evidenced by our broad participation and continued success on a club and regional level, in national class regattas and at U.S. Sailing championship events.

We continue to encourage and preserve the arts of sailing and navigation, while furnishing instruction to our members.  Our phenomenally successful junior program, expanded adult sailing instruction and casual week night races all speak to our understanding that to appreciate and grow our sport, solid instruction is invaluable.

Perhaps most importantly, we endeavor to do all of this while working diligently to adhere to the highest ideals of sportsmanship.

And as a volunteer organization, all of the credit goes to our members, who through hard work and dedication continually make Shrewsbury the unique, congenial and sailing focused club it remains today.

These are the founders' sentiments - and I am honored to be able to confirm that we remain on course over 70 years later.

Warmest regards,

Paul J. Clauss
