2008 Sailing Programs

Shrewsbury has long offered one of the most enjoyable and comprehensive sailing and learning experiences on the East Coast. Our junior sailors are encouraged to explore their potential and find their niche - whether that's a great sailor and boat handler, racing skipper or crew.

SSYC offers classes for beginners, intermediates, advanced and tactics sailors. The boats used in our program include Optimists, Club 420's and Lasers.

Ms. Kelly Zweig is our 2008 Junior Program Chair. If you have questions about the Junior Program, questions may be sent to Kelly via an online Inquiry and you will be contacted directly. For program registration materials please select the Program Registration menu option on the left.

Beginners learn the basics - from preparing and rigging their boat - to sailing in a variety of conditions both on their own and with crew.

Intermediates refine their skills, learning to race and handle their boats in more challenging conditions. Our advanced tactic and team sailors hone their skills on the race course, developing their boat handling and tactical skills to a level that allows them to compete locally, regionally and nationally.

Our Junior sailors compete at all levels - traveling to local clubs, regional US Sailing events and national US Sailing events, national regattas and other regattas across the country, some traveling and racing year round under the Shrewsbury burgee.
