Commodore's Message

I am honored to serve as Commodore of the Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club for the 2017 sailing season. On behalf of the Board of Governors, we welcome you to the SSYC website.

From the club’s inception in 1936, when the founding members embarked on a mission to create a place to enjoy “the sport of boats, sailing, cruising, and racing among congenial people,” to the present day, I am humbly reminded of the many volunteer members who dedicated their time and effort and stayed the course to help navigate our club to its present status – one of the most outstanding sailing clubs in New Jersey. It is my pleasure to work alongside this season’s hardworking and knowledgeable Board of Governors and tireless member volunteers to ensure that this legacy continues, and that SSYC remains a place where creating lasting memories with friends and family is a mainstay of your experience at the Club.

The SSYC clubhouse and junior building, yard and docks, as well as the club owned boats, are in great condition. Membership is growing and our junior and adult sailing programs are held in the highest regard. SSYC sailors continue to distinguish themselves in one-design class events. Our club’s dedication to provide the best junior sailing instruction possible consistently produces junior, high school, and college sailors that represent SSYC both locally and nationally. Our racing and social calendar is filled with many opportunities to enjoy camaraderie with fellow sailors on the water or on the deck of SSYC – where sunsets are a guaranteed highlight of the evening. I encourage you and your family to visit the club as often as you can this year to enjoy all that SSYC has to offer. If you have not had the chance to volunteer yet this year, I encourage you to do so, as lasting friendships and good times are created through volunteering at SSYC.

For those inquiring about adult and youth sailing lessons or membership to our sailing club, I am confident that you will find SSYC to be the most welcoming club to embark on your sailing adventure.

On behalf of the Flag Officers and Board of Governors, I wish you and your family a happy and safe sailing season in 2017.

Best Regards,

Micheal Meehan
